The Environmental Practitioner supports the Manager: Environmental in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation related to the management of greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, water and waste. Specific areas of accountability relate to the following:
● Monitoring and reporting on compliance obligations (Water, Waste and Atmospheric Emissions Licenses).
● Coordinating and scheduling internal and external audits in accordance with the requirements of environmental licenses.
● Participating in maintenance of the ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
● Calculation and reporting of environmental aspects of ESG reporting (GHG emissions, energy consumption, water consumption and waste disposal).
Key Performance Indicators:
Audits:
- Schedule and conduct internal environmental audits
- Schedule and participate in external compliance audits (i.e. ISO 14001)
- Coordinate rectification of audit findings.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Water Use Licence: Collate results of weekly samples for stakeholders
- Waste Management Licence: Compile data and submit monthly reports. Conduct monitoring required by National Norms and Standards under the Waste Act
- Atmospheric Emissions Licence: Collate results of continuous emissions monitoring equipment for stakeholders
- ESG Reporting: Calculate monthly values of Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions for stakeholders
- ESG Reporting: coordinate annual data collection for Scope 3 emissions calculation (supply chain, transport, travel and commuting).
On-site Sampling:
- Prepare samples of waste streams as required for assessment of recycling potential.
- Assist Environmental Engineer with water sampling related to incident investigation and improvement projects
Meetings:
- Attend External environmental meetings as required
- Attend and contribute to the Utilities Safety Meeting.
