ABOUT THE POSITION
This role will support Fluence product development by contributing to the engineering, validation, and industrialization of Direct Current Protection Module (DCPM) hardware used across Fluence’s energy storage platforms.
You will work closely with the Battery Systems Engineering team to deliver high‑voltage electrical subsystem design, drive manufacturability and cost improvements, and ensure DCPM components are robust, safe, and production‑ready.
The primary focus of this role is electrical engineering for high‑voltage battery subsystems, including DCPM hardware ownership, fuse and protection strategy, HV/LV interconnects, and cross‑functional system integration. The role will also work with a range of electrical CAD tools, simulation environments, and high‑voltage test equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design, release, and validation of DCPM components including HV/LV harnesses, busbars, fuses, ICBs, contactors, relays, connectors, and associated protection hardware.
- Use electrical CAD tools, drawing environments, and wiring documentation software to maintain accurate design data.
- Maintain DCPM system schematics, interface definitions, and BMS mapping (DCPM → Module, DCPM → Enclosure).
- Perform analysis using simulation tools (electrical modeling, thermal analysis, or equivalent).
- Support hardware evaluation using industry‑standard HV measurement tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, HV probes).
- Conduct insulation and safety assessments using Hipot testers, insulation resistance testers, and dielectric testers.
- Support validation using power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, and harness continuity test tools.
- Prepare and document technical specifications, interface control documents, and subsystem requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to mature concept designs into production‑ready solutions.
- Ensure manufacturability and assembly feasibility through DFM/DFA best practices.
- Support Procurement during component reviews and sourcing transitions.
- Drive part readiness including engineering changes and PPAP‑equivalent deliverables.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for development, EOL, and field issues using appropriate test tools.
- Support certification activities (UL1973, CNS, internal engineering requirements).
- Collaborate with test engineering teams on TestRail or equivalent test‑case management systems.
- Support documentation management using PLM tools such as Windchill, and workflow systems such as Jira.
- Participate in design reviews, engineering forums, and milestone evaluations.
- Maintain accurate traceability across all DCPM variants through documentation tools.
- Travel up to 20% to support testing, issue resolution, or validation activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in high‑voltage battery systems, energy storage, or automotive HV distribution.
- Strong understanding of HV protection devices, high‑current bussing, thermal derating, and subsystem safety.
- Experience with electrical CAD tools, schematic interpretation, and wiring diagram development.
- Familiarity with CAE/simulation tools and evaluation of thermal or electrical behavior.
- Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage measurement and testing tools.
- Strong data analysis, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Experience working across global, cross‑functional teams.
- Action‑oriented, self‑starter with strong prioritization and decision‑making abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience developing or validating DCPM hardware, HV busbars, EOL testing systems, or battery subsystem electrical integration.
- Familiarity with UL1973, IEC/ISO standards, APQP processes, and PLM systems (Windchill).
- Hands-on experience performing root‑cause analysis, technical investigations, or test‑based troubleshooting using HV test equipment.
