Overview
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for supporting and administering EHS programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. This role works closely with operations, engineering, and leadership to promote a strong safety culture and reduce risk across the organization.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The EHS Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to maintain compliance and strengthen operational resilience;
- Promotes, encourages, and reinforces a positive safety culture, safe practices, and a safe work environment for all employees
- Coordinate, schedule, and support routine safety and environmental inspections and audits
- Coordinate, schedule, and support safety training programs for employees, contractors, and others; Facilitate select safety training classes as directed
- Manage safety training records, certifications, and employee participation; Update EH&S metrics and prepare reports for leadership
- Support incident, near-miss, and hazard reporting and documentation; Generate weekly and monthly reports for leadership
- Manage hazardous materials documentation, including SDS, and labeling
- Assist with environmental compliance tasks such as waste manifest record management, waste labeling, and storage inspections
- Support risk assessments, hazard identification, and job safety analysis (JSA’s)
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow‑up actions
- Identify unsafe behaviors and unsafe conditions in the workplace using regulatory requirements & best safety practices
- Participate in safety committee(s) and cross-functional safety improvement teams. Maintain meeting minutes and other supporting documentation
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and environmental health
- Support employee engagement initiatives (e.g., P.I.T. Olympics, Environmental Health & Safety Fair, and other campaigns) to strengthen a proactive safety culture
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of OSHA, NFPA fire codes, EPA regulations, and workplace safety principles required
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization and influence safe behaviors
- Experience in coordinating safety committees or similar groups preferred
- Solid computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA, EPA, DEQ information via the internet
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent work experience) preferred
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid preferred
- OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience in related field preferred
