Para la Naturaleza is a leading nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of Puerto Rico’s natural resources. We are seeking a highly capable Reforestation Coordinator to join our growing team and lead critical field, nursery, and maintenance operations across protected natural areas.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with proven experience in supervision, agronomy, reforestation, and facilities/land maintenance, who thrives in outdoor environments and operational settings.
Position Summary
The Reforestation Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all reforestation, conservation, maintenance, and infrastructure activities within assigned protected areas, tree nurseries, facilities, and equipment operations.
This position includes direct supervision of staff and contractors, budget oversight, and field execution, requiring flexibility to work rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays, and to travel within and outside Puerto Rico as operational needs require.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise reforestation, conservation, and land maintenance projects
- Oversee tree nursery operations, plant production, and agro-ecological practices
- Supervise field staff, consultants, and contractors, including scheduling, payroll coordination, and performance oversight
- Manage budgets, supplies, equipment, and operational resources
- Coordinate landscaping, construction, and facilities maintenance (electricity, plumbing, carpentry, basic infrastructure)
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, environmental management plans, and safety protocols
- Operate and oversee the use of vehicles and heavy equipment
- Work in diverse field conditions, including mountains, open areas, and natural reserves
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, Agronomy, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution
- 1–2 years of experiencein a similar role with demonstrated experience in:
- Direct staff supervision
- Employee evaluations
- Payroll
- Employee development and training
- Budget and operational management
- Landscaping, construction, or facilities maintenance
- Recruitment and selection of personnel
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience in tree nursery maintenance and reforestation activities
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish
· Valid PR driver’s license and availability to drive and operate vehicles
· Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding environments
· Availability to travel within and outside of Puerto Rico, and to work extended or night hours, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
Preferred / Highly Desirable Experience
- Project management and agronomy experience
- Knowledge of:
- Construction codes and blueprint interpretation
- OSHA regulations and environmental compliance
- Botany, tree production techniques, agro-ecological practices, pesticide utilization
- Certifications such as:
- CPR
- Emergency Management
- Interpretive Guide
- Driver’s License Category #4 or higher
- Strong computer skills, including:
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Outlook
- Internet research
- Familiarity with Windows and macOS operating systems
Language & Communication
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish
Ability to lead teams, document work, and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders
