The Opportunity
The Donor Communications Specialist plays a key role within APC’s Resource Development office, leading the creation, coordination, and execution of various communications initiatives. The successful candidate will be open to bringing a donor-focused lens to their work and be eager to learn and embrace best practices in philanthropic communications. The Donor Communications Specialist is an exceptional writer and communicator with the ability to create strategic messages focused on telling the stories of the Park, Zoo, and Leaf.
This position is responsible for producing compelling, strategic content. The successful candidate will be willing to hone their craft to support donor cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship, while ensuring the integrity and visibility of donor recognition. A creative thinker and strategic storyteller, the Donor Communications Specialist will draft various communiques for the Resource Development team, including donation proposals, donor recognition messages, impact reports, and compelling e-blasts. Reporting to the Senior Director, Fund Development, the Donor Communications Specialist creates compelling calls to action through personalized messaging and understanding the values of shared impact, contributing to long-term donor trust and engagement.
Required Education, Training, and Experience
- Post secondary education in Communications or a related field.
- Demonstrated exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Minimum 5 years of proven communications experience, preferably within a fundraising, non-profit, or advancement environment.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Demonstrated experience producing donor-centered content and stewardship materials is considered an asset.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and detailed processes.
- Experience with email marketing platforms such as iContact, Mail Chimp, Luminate, or similar.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign or similar is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge/NXT or another CRM/database is considered a strong asset.
- High degree of discretion, ethical judgment, and professionalism in handling sensitive donor information.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
