Summary
Incumbent performs recurring building and/or utility maintenance, operation duties, and assists journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.
Major Duties
The incumbent serves as a Maintenance Worker for the Southeast Utah Group Parks at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. The primary purpose of the position is to assist journey-level or other higher graded maintenance workers under general supervision in general landscaping and grounds maintenance, trails maintenance, basic carpentry, simple electrical installations or repairs, basic plumbing work, painting interior and exterior surfaces, and performing a variety of janitorial services. Operates medium and small equipment for maintenance on gravel roadways and trails. Operates farm type tractors and associated attachments used to mow maintained roadside landscape areas. Operates trucks up to 13 tons to pick up supplies, transport materials to and from work site, pick up materials from local vendors, or plowing snow as needed. Arches National Park contains the world's largest concentration of natural stone openings. Arches, spires, balanced rocks, canyons and fins of colorful red rocks are set against the dramatic backdrop of the La Sal Mountains, rising to over 12,000 feet in elevation. Due to Arches' close proximity to Moab, which is only five miles away, the park is a very popular destination for tourist from all over the US and the world, with a current visitation of almost 1.5 million annually. Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.
