Major Duties
Key Duties and Responsibilities Assists carpenters in the repair, replacement, and construction of building components by performing routine and repetitive tasks under close or general supervision. Performs basic demolition and site preparation work, including removing rotted or damaged materials, clearing debris, and preparing work areas for carpentry repairs. Measures, cuts, and handles lumber and other materials following specific instructions and established layouts provided by higher-graded workers. Uses basic hand and power tools such as hammers, saws, drills, screwdrivers, and measuring tools to perform assigned tasks safely and correctly. Assists with installation of siding, decking, trim, and other non-complex building elements where measurements and methods are clearly defined. Loads, unloads, stages, and transports materials, tools, and equipment to and from work sites, including in remote or backcountry locations. Supports backcountry project logistics by assisting with packing, material staging, and transport by vehicle, aircraft, watercraft, or other approved means. Follows safety requirements, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), proper use of personal protective equipment, and safe tool handling practices. Maintains work areas by keeping tools organized, cleaning job sites, and properly disposing of waste materials in accordance with environmental guidelines. Operates light vehicles and equipment under instruction to support maintenance and construction activities.
