Summary
The incumbent serves as a technical advisor in ecology for one or more parks to apply a systems approach to the study and analysis of organisms and ecological relationships. The ecologist is responsible for program development and implementation.
Major Duties
Major Duties: Following established procedures and within a defined scope, the incumbent conducts scientifically credible protection, mitigation, and restoration projects to prevent resource damage, to restore and/or maintain the integrity of critical habitats, native plant and animal communities, managed landscapes, and physical resources, and to minimize human activities that impact resources. Makes field resource observations. Evaluates conditions and problems and recommends management actions based on existing guidelines and plans. Leads field crews of seasonal staff, interns, youth crews, and volunteers in resources management and landscape projects; Provides advice, assistance and training/orientation on park resources as well as resource management activities and procedures. Prepares management and scientific reports regarding the results of protection, mitigation, restoration, reintroduction, inventory, monitoring, and research activities; Prepares management plans and SOPs to ensure resource management quality and consistency. Incorporates appropriate GIS technology into job to provide comprehensive and scientifically accurate assessment and tracking of natural resources and projects. Uses automated methods of data collection, analysis or illustration. Inputs data into digital form and uses computer applications for data analysis, manipulation, and presentation.
