Summary
The purpose of the position is to perform, at the sub-journeyman level, the maintenance, repair, and construction of Park trails. Duty station may be in an area away from park headquarters with general duties performed in a Park. This position requires frequent overnight backcountry stays.
Major Duties
Full working knowledge of the maintenance functions associated with roads, trails, and grounds, such as filling potholes in roads and parking lots, installing drainage structures on trails, and various landscaping tasks. Uses a variety of equipment such as pneumatic tampers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, push and riding mowers, 4-wheel drive trail vehicles, and other various hand and power tools. Operates gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles up to 26,000 pounds GVW while pulling trailer up to 10,000 pounds GVW. Performs maintenance, construction, alterations, and repairs on structures such as footbridges, boardwalks, staircases, picnic tables, benches, signs, parking lot wheel-stops, repairing and maintaining roads and parking lots using dump trucks, wheel barrows, asphalt cold-patch, gravel, and sand. Maybe involved in constructing and maintaining trails using chainsaw and/or pole saw, heavy-duty push mowers, various rigging equipment, Pulaski, pick mattock, and shovel. Maybe involved in assisting in maintenance of way along the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to vehicles and equipment.
