This Position reports to:
Manufacturing Unit Manager
ABB is seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator to join our team on a fixed-term basis. This hands-on role focuses on maintaining and enhancing our HSE programs through field-based activities, compliance monitoring, and operational support. The ideal candidate is a proactive safety professional who thrives in a collaborative, floor-level environment.
Your Role: Own the Challenge
Operational HSE Activities
- Perform hazard identification and risk assessments across operational areas
- Support internal HSE audits and ensure alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
- Reporting and analytics within HSM management systems
- Lead daily HSE field presence and conduct regular floor-level inspections (machine guarding, fire safety equipment, PPE compliance, ergonomics, environmental controls)
- Ensure compliance with CNESST regulations and internal corporate HSE standards
- Maintain and update risk assessments (AST/JSA) and hazard identification processes
- Monitor corrective action implementation and ensure timely closure
- Support environmental monitoring activities (waste management, energy tracking, spill prevention)
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning
- Support coordination of contractor and visitor safety compliance
- Prepare and present HSE updates to department leaders and cross-functional teams
Investigations & Reporting
- Track and report on key safety indicators and compliance activities
- Lead incident investigations (near misses, first aid, recordable injuries, environmental events)
- Conduct root cause analysis using approved methodology
- Manage hazard reporting system and corrective action follow-up
- Maintain HSE KPIs (TRIFR, leading indicators, training compliance, inspection tracking)
- Prepare HSE performance reports and analytics for management review
- Maintain documentation within HSE management systems (digital platforms
Project Support
- Contribute to special HSE projects and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support implementation of safety programs and procedural enhancements
- Lead implementation of corporate HSE initiatives and site-level improvement programs
Support internal and external audit preparation (ISO 45001 / ISO 14001) - Maintain management system documentation and ensure alignment with corporate requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives supporting Mission to Zero and environmental objectives
What it takes to run what runs the world
• Certificate or bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, Environment, or related field
• 2-3 years of relevant HSE experience in manufacturing or industrial environment OR Bachelor's degree in SSE with demonstrated practical application
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) standards (asset)
• CPR certification (asset)
• Strong knowledge of CNESST regulations and Quebec occupational health & safety requirements
• Working knowledge of ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) standards considered an asset
• Experience conducting incident investigations and risk assessments. Strong field presence with hands-on approach to safety management
• Familiarity with digital reporting and management systems
• Excellent communication and presentation skills. Sociable, approachable demeanor with open-door philosophy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all organizational levels
• Bilingual (English/French) - written and verbal. French is required. English is also required to communicate with customers outside Quebec on a regular basis
WORK SCHEDULE
Rotating schedule aligned with production shifts.
Flexibility required to respond to incidents or urgent operational matters when necessary.
