Step into a leadership role that keeps Louisiana’s environment protected and its communities safe. As a frontline supervisor in the Acadiana Regional Office, you’ll guide a team of Environmental Scientists who inspect facilities, investigate complaints, monitor environmental conditions, and respond to spills across multiple media. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast paced field environment, enjoys developing staff, and wants to make a direct impact on environmental compliance in the state.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR
A master’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus two years of the experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR
A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Daily supervision and guidance of inspectors and student workers.
- Review compliance evaluation inspection and complaint investigation reports in all medias.
- Participate in the yearly ORM Audit at Acadiana Regional Office
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for all inspectors
- Review all data and time entries for completeness and timeliness
Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: Detail to Special Duty with the potential to be Promoted from Detail – Open only to current permanent employees of DEQ.
Work location: Lafayette
Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job tittle and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
- Environmental Scientist Supervisor: $31.38 per hour
