Benedict Recycling in Unanderra is seeking an experienced and motivated Leading Hand to join our team.
About the RoleReporting to the Site Manager, the Leading Hand plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient daily operation of the recycling facility. This position assists the Site Manager in achieving operational targets and cost efficiencies and is responsible for supervising the site in the absence of the Site Supervisor.This is a hands-on role that includes plant operation, general labouring duties, spotting and team leadership.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure safe traffic flow within the tip area and to/from weighbridges
- Assist with daily operational requirements as directed
- Perform general labouring and maintenance duties
- Maintain housekeeping standards across the site, including bin areas and driveways
- Support management in maintaining safe plant operating parameters
- Ensure the facility operates within established safety and performance parameters
- Operate plant and machinery as required to meet site demands
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise the facility in the absence of the Site Supervisor
- Lead by example and set high standards for safety and performance
- Assist in conducting daily Toolbox Talks prior to shifts
- Provide constructive feedback and ensure effective communication with employees
- Proactively report personnel issues and concerns
- Support training and development to ensure employees are competent in their roles
- Ensure punctuality and timekeeping standards are maintained
- Assist in workforce planning to ensure adequate staffing coverage
- Ensure completion of required documentation, including checklists, production sheets, timesheets, permits and JSAs
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct all duties in a safe manner
- Maintain high site housekeeping standards
- Identify and report hazards promptly
- Ensure correct PPE is worn at all times
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Assist in ensuring plant and equipment operate in accordance with EPA, NSW Planning & Environment Resource Regulator, and local council requirements
About You
- Proven experience in a recycling, waste, quarry, or industrial environment
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
- Ability to operate plant and equipment (relevant tickets/licences advantageous)
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Self-motivated with a proactive, hands-on approach
