Employee will be assigned to the Division of Mining and Reclamation's Logan Permitting Section. Employee will perform professional engineering work, with the level depending on experience, providing a wide variety of engineering services.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
The review and supervision of all technical engineering aspects and processing of surface mining and underground mining applications to ensure that facilities are designed and operated in accordance with applicable state and federal surface mining guidelines, as well as sound engineering practices.
Employee will review plans and designs for the construction of roads, dams and sediment structures and review engineering plans and applications to access environmental impact of proposed mining.
Will compose reports detailing recommendations, conclusions and findings.
Will conduct annual inspections of impoundments as required by the Dam Control Act.
Employee will prepare a variety of reports and correspondence and updates computer data files on a regular basis.
Will conduct field inspections which may require walking over rugged terrain and in inclement weather.
Employee will attend meetings and hearings to observe or attest to the findings of environmental impact.
Will attend state and national meetings and seminars to gain and share engineering knowledge.
Employee may review lower level engineering work performed. May perform in a supervisory or lead worker role.
Will perform other duties as required.
Notes:- Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

- All new employees that are involved with Specific DEP programs subject to the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMRCA) of 1977 must file prior to final appointment and annually thereafter, a Statement of Employment and Financial Interest (OSM 23).
- The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter or as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Training: Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
AND
Experience: Seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in engineering, in which three (3) years must be as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Note: The experience must have been acquired after the bachelor’s degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.
