Description of Work
The Environmental Health Manager, under general direction, will plan, develop and implement policies and procedures for the Environmental Health and other Public Health programs. This position is primarily responsible for assuring that the various public health programs operate in compliance with federal, state and local regulations, policies and guidelines by managing and evaluating operational performance and providing quality assurance and improvement leadership. The Environment Health Manager is also responsible for directing and administrating various Public Health programs and services acting as a liaison/consultant to minimize duplication of services within the department and at the community level. This position will stay informed of developments in program requirements and will represent the Public Health department at various state and community meetings, professional associations, coalitions, task forces, etc. During a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties or perform emergency response roles, inside or outside Muskegon County. This position also performs other related duties as required.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
1. Possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Environmental Health,
Science, Biology or closely related field; AND
Have a minimum of two (2) years recent full-time work experience in a governmental agency or public school;
OR
Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Environmental
Health, Science, Biology or closely related field; AND
Have a minimum of four (4) years recent full-time work experience in a governmental agency or public school;
2. Possess a valid Michigan’s driver’s license.
Physical Conditions / Work Location
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
An employee in this class preforms general sedentary work activity requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
An employee in this class generally works in the Public Health Department building though occasional local and state-wide travel may be required.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
