JOB SUMMARY
The HSE Specialist will work in all areas of the business to recognize, evaluate, and recommend solutions to hazards in the workplace. This role will also provide proper training and effectively communicate safety to employees across all business lines, demonstrating this individual’s knowledge and ability to make decisions pertaining to health, safety, and environmental.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrate safe work habits and actively promote a safe workplace
Partner with HSE team members to conduct various safety training activities such as New Hire Orientation, New Miner Training, Continuous Improvement Training, OSHA/MSHA Annual Refreshers, and Smith System Training
Assist with conducting health, safety, and environmental compliance inspections at all locations
Help conduct workplace noise and dust sampling and surveys; provide recommendations to Operations based on the results and ensure all results are in accordance with regulations and company health policies
Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis for reportable incidents, near misses, vehicle incidents, and safety concerns
Help perform audits on contractors and ensure compliance with Dolese HSE policies
Work with Continuous Improvement (CI) Teams and front-line employees to ensure safe work conditions are provided
Collect specimens and assist with selection of random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing and maintain Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) certification
Accompany government officials during MSHA, OSHA, and ODEQ inspections and have a basic understanding of all HSE related regulations
Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships
Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes
Ability to do one-on-one employee training as well as large group training
Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively at all levels in the organization
Basic knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, DEQ, EPA, local/state ordinances, and DOT regulations
Basic knowledge of HSE related policies and procedures
Willingness to obtain a BCSP accredited certification
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a willingness and ability to prepare detailed reports and maintain records
Strong mechanical aptitude
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record
Ability to travel for work purposes with possible overnight stays
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lift objects repeatedly of various dimensions and up to 50 lbs. of weight
Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and climb ladders
Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
Ability to tolerate working in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting
Ability to repeatedly walk on uneven surfaces
