POSITION OVERVIEW
Located along the Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida, the Brevard Zoo is an AZA-accredited facility with a diverse collection of over 900 animals representing nearly 200 species. It is also home to the Sea Turtle Healing Center for rehabilitation of wild marine turtles. Brevard Zoo is well-known for its strong conservation ethic and unique attractions, such as kayaking through the Africa area, giraffe feeding, and rhinoceros and various other animal encounters.
The Zoo Experience Advisor (temporary events) is responsible for providing guests with an amazing Zoo experience by being welcoming, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Team members will be expected to assist with evening special event operations, including ticketing, cleaning and maintaining guest areas, and monitoring event areas to ensure guests are safe and having an enjoyable experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- Strong oral communication skills
- Strong computer/POS system skills.
- Cash handling experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED/DESIRED:
- High school diploma
- Previous experience working seasonal or special events
- Current certification in CPR or First Aid (or ability to obtain certification).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide outstanding customer service to guests by being welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic.
- Opening and closing of sales and scanning areas in an efficient manner.
- Efficiently scanning tickets to ensure accurate guest count and verify active event tickets for entry.
- Informing guests of event information to ensure they have a positive experience.
- Answering guest questions during event.
- Monitor guest areas, including restrooms, to ensure spaces are clean, fully stocked, and comfortable for guests. Clean or restock areas as needed.
- Empty trash containers around the Zoo as needed.
- Monitor guest behavior to ensure guests are comfortable and enjoy the event. Ensure guests are acting in a safe and appropriate manner. Alert MOD to concerning guest behavior.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to deliver superior customer service to a variety of guests.
- Proficiency in point-of-sale systems and supporting equipment.
- Ability to multi-task while upholding an exemplary guest service experience.
- Professional and interpersonal skills with an openness and flexibility to changing plans.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
(L) Light work
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Does require the ability to stand and/or walk for 30 minutes at a time.
POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:
Outdoor working environment most often with frequent exposure to extreme heat and weather conditions. Requires Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Finger Dexterity, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity frequently.
Must be willing to work in inclement weather including temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and high humidity. Frequent movement outdoors with some indoor office environment. Exposure to extreme heat and weather conditions. Requires Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Finger Dexterity, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity frequently.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Must be regularly available to be scheduled in the evenings (6pm-10pm) Thursday through Sunday.
