Louisiana Bridge Builders (“LBB”) is designing and building the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles, Louisiana (USA) for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). LBB will also be responsible for the reconstruction of interstate highway, various structures, ramps, and approaches for a 5.5 mile stretch between I-210 West End and Ryan Street.

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The Environmental Compliance Inspector (ECI) is committed to supporting Louisiana Bridge Builders through field inspections of all the environmental construction commitments and conditions of Environmental Approvals and permits required for the Project. The ECI will additionally assist the Environmental Compliance Manager (ECM) in tasks to support the Environmental Team, as directed.
LOCATION
This position is based in Lake Charles, LA.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct inspections of storm water erosion controls on the project.
- Regulatory and permit compliance: Inform the ECM of the status of day-to-day compliance on the project relative to all federal, state, and local environmental laws, such as the Clean Air and Water Acts. This includes verifying that all necessary permits are in place before work begins and that all permits are tracked, and permit conditions are monitored.
- Site monitoring and inspections: Conduct site visits to monitor construction activities, erosion and sediment control measures, and other potential environmental impacts.
- Liaison and communication: Communicate compliance requirements with field staff and coordinate with various stakeholders on environmental matters, as directed by the ECM.
- Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed records of environmental performance, including daily reports and logs, such as the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
- Training and guidance: Deliver training to construction personnel on environmental regulations, policies, and best management practices.
- Problem-solving: Investigate environmental incidents and complaints and oversee, with ECM guidance, the implementation of corrective actions to resolve non-compliance issues.
- Monitor, document, and report environmental compliance for the project.
- Report any violation of failure to comply with requirements to the ECM.
- Identify and implement corrective and preventative actions to ensure compliance.
- Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
At a minimum, the Environmental Compliance Inspector must have a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, construction management, or equivalent field of study, along with 2+ years of proven experience with construction monitoring, permitting compliance, and overall environmental compliance on large-scale complex construction projects with environmentally sensitive areas; or a high school diploma, or equivalent, along with 6+ years of proven experience with construction management, permitting compliance, and overall environmental compliance on large-scale complete construction projects. The Environmental Compliance Inspector must hold a Storm Water Inspector certification or be willing to secure certification after hire, and experience working with environmental regulations and regulatory agencies is highly preferred. Knowledge of transportation construction practices and environmental compliance is essential. The Environmental Compliance Inspector must also have a current and valid driver’s license.
