GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
Performs entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Performs assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Learn about regulatory reporting methods
- Research the latest policies for environmental policy and sustainability in the energy sector
- Provide professional support such as tracking and charting environmental policy and sustainability projects in the energy sector and identifying performance measures
- Gain hands-on experience researching and analyzing environmental issues
- Assist in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives
- Contribute to policy briefs and reports
- Network with experts in the field

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)
- A current undergraduate student studying environmental science policy and sustainability
- Eager to learn and apply knowledge to real-world challenges
- Possess strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- A team player with a passion for sustainability

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Knowledge in general research methods
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co-workers, other City employees and the general public
- Ability to learn Microsoft Office Suites
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:- Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operation
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards
- The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
