DescriptionResponsible for leading projects to support Kroger’s Responsible Business strategy and advance progress on environmental sustainability goals. Lead strategic workstreams related to our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste impact plan and achieving long-term progress. Play key role leading sustainability-focused disclosures; data collection and metrics tracking and improvement; sustainability goal & compliance implementation planning; and internal engagement to provide sustainability subject matter expertise and guidance. Responsibilities
- Lead strategic projects and/or cross-functional workstreams to advance the company’s performance on key environmental sustainability topics
- Serve as internal sustainability subject matter expert to advise company leaders and teams on related topics and priorities; build an internal network of collaborators
- Play a key role and collaborate with leaders to develop and implement roadmaps, resources and strategies to help Kroger advance progress on its sustainability goals and priorities
- Represent Kroger in sustainability-focused multi-stakeholder collaboratives, industry working groups; participate in meetings to engage our stakeholders where relevant
- Play key role in preparing sustainability and social responsibility disclosures, including Kroger’s Responsible Business report, CDP responses and investor data sets
- Demonstrate familiarity with current sustainability reporting frameworks and emerging disclosure trends to support sustainability and social responsibility reporting
- Lead data collection, compilation, calculation and synthesis for select sustainability metrics, which could include GHG emissions, waste and recycling, packaging and no-deforestation. Work with external consultants, internal resources and a variety of software platforms
- Work with other teams, subject matter experts and data systems to identify and implement continuous improvements to Kroger’s sustainability metrics and datasets
- Help evaluate and develop compliance pathways for environmental policy and legislation in areas that overlap with sustainability, such as packaging and climate resilience
- Support risk assessments for sustainability topics, including climate impacts, water and biodiversity, to inform our strategy and approach to these topics
- Help translate sustainability topics, priorities and metrics for internal and external communications
- Receive and implement guidance from leaders and offer guidance for team members
- Travel periodically (<10%) to represent Kroger at conferences, industry working groups, multi-stakeholder collaboratives

QualificationsMinimum

- Master’s degree or certifications in relevant field
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and guidelines
- Experience leading change in a large organization, including communicating with high-level leaders
- Experience in climate change, packaging and plastic, or responsible sourcing/supply chain sustainability
