POSITION PURPOSE
The Environmental Safety and Health Manager is responsible for maintaining compliance with various Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations regarding workplace safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding required of an OSHA Competent Person
Continuously evaluate Metromont’s processes, safety standards, and safety practices and provide feedback on areas where non-compliance with regulations may exist
Implement corrective action in areas found to be non-complaint with regulations
Participate in training classes and continual education required to maintain OSHA 100-hour certification
In case of an audit, serve as the main liaison on site between Metromont and the regulator agency
Lead plant management in safety improvement efforts and implementation of Metromont’s safety programs
Serve as the leader and mentor on site for Metromont’s Behavioral Based Safety Program
Facilitate safety committee meetings
Participate in plant safety audits and routine process confirmation walks. Utilize information gained to formulate corrective action and continuous improvement plans
Evaluate Metromont’s processes, in cooperation with plant management, to determine ways to minimize risk of injury
Implement process changes with respect to safety and train all associates on those changes
Maintain all plant safety records, MSDS files, operator certifications, and safety related training files
Develop, maintain, and update Metromont’s Safety Best Practices and communicate those practices to new associates, as well as provide refresher training to current associates
Conduct new hire orientation and follow up with plant management on the mentoring of new associates
Conduct safe equipment operation training for associates whose roles will require them to operate equipment
Orient sub-contractors and train them on Metromont’s safety practices in advance of their performing work at Metromont’s facilities
Conduct training and orientation for new chemicals introduced to the plant
Support plant tool box meetings by providing topics and working with plant supervision to conduct meetings
Conduct all investigations and complete reports for near misses, plant first aids, and safety incidents
Communicate near misses, plant first aids, and safety incidents to plant management, fellow safety managers, and designated members of Metromont’s management team when they occur
In the event of injury requiring treatment beyond normal first aid, coordinate the activities necessary to get the associate to the appropriate treatment center
Provide follow up assistance for all Workers Compensation cases including coordination of post-accident physician or physical therapy visits, coordination of light duty assignments with plant management, and release to normal duties
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY
This position interfaces on a continuous basis with the Director of Safety, Plant Managers, Production Managers, Supervisors, and other plant associates
This position must also work independently with no supervision

EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY
Associate Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or other related field
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a safety management or support safety management role
Experience training associates is a plus
Experience managing or being involved in a Behavior Based Safety Program is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday
8 AM-5 PM
Typically works in an office environment in the plant
Schedule flexibility may be needed to meet deadlines
