Role Purpose:
As a Dangerous Goods Driver, you will be responsible for the safe collection, transport, and delivery of end-of-life batteries and battery-related waste materials for recycling and recovery from our clients Facilities. You will work alongside another team member to collect and manage commodities safely and efficiently. This role involves strict compliance with Dangerous Goods legislation, environmental requirements, and company HSEQ systems.
You will play a key role in ensuring batteries are transported safely, securely, and efficiently while supporting the organisation’s commitment to sustainability, compliance, and responsible waste recovery. This role offers the opportunity to transition into a full-time permanent position.
Success in this role you will see:
- Safe collection and transport of lead-acid and other regulated batteries
- Loading and unloading commodities safely (manual and mechanical handling)
- Ensuring correct packaging, segregation, labelling and restraint of dangerous goods
- Completing documentation including artefact collection, DG declarations, transport certificates and delivery dockets
- Conducting daily pre-start checks and maintaining vehicle safety standards
- Maintaining a professional approach while dealing with clients on-site
- Reporting hazards, incidents, spills or non-conformances immediately
- Supporting emergency response procedures if required
- Following all company HSEQ processes and safety expectations
Working Conditions
- Regular driving between metro and regional locations
- Exposure to industrial environments including recycling yards and waste facilities
- Manual handling and physical work required
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials (managed through controls and PPE)
- Shift work, overtime, and weekend work may be required depending on operational demand
Who you are:
Mandatory Requirements
- Current Dangerous Goods Driver Licence (DG Licence)
- White Card
- Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening
- Current Driver Medical / Fitness for Duty clearance (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong understanding of ADG Code and DG transport compliance
Highly Desirable
- Current HR licence
- Forklift Licence (LF)
- Experience transporting waste batteries or hazardous materials
- Experience in waste management, recycling or industrial logistics
- Spill response or emergency response training
- Knowledge of EPA waste tracking systems (QLD and interstate)
