This position supports the mission of the Tennessee Aquarium to connect people with nature and empower them to make informed decisions about water and wildlife.
The Exhibit Services Technician assists the A/V Technology Specialist in the operation and maintenance of A/V equipment. They create and maintain exhibit animal I.D.’s., assist with the installation and maintenance of all new graphics and interactives as well as review, update and maintain existing graphics/exhibits. The Exhibit Services Technician also provides A/V assistance for all departments as needed, including after-hour events.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains all species identification labels throughout the Aquarium, ensuring accuracy, readability, and professional appearance by routinely updating content, replacing worn or damaged signage, and verifying alignment with current animal collections and interpretive standards.
- Conducts daily walk-through inspections to proactively identify maintenance concerns, safety issues, or aesthetic deficiencies related to exhibits, and performs or coordinates timely repairs.
- Provides support for the installation, removal, updating, and ongoing maintenance of exhibit graphics, including labels, panels, decals, and other interpretive elements, ensuring consistency with design standards and intent.
- Catalogs, organizes, and maintains the interpretive and exhibits photo library by uploading, labeling, and archiving images; regularly reviews and updates content to ensure accurate documentation.
- Assists with the installation, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance of audiovisual (A/V) equipment within exhibit spaces, including monitors, projectors, media players, speakers, and control systems.
- Provides A/V technical support to other departments and for special programs, including evenings or after-hours functions, by setting up equipment, resolving technical issues, and ensuring smooth operation as needed.
- Completes a variety of general exhibit services tasks which may include fabrication support, minor construction, painting, repairs, or coordination with internal teams and vendors to support exhibit projects and daily operations.
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor while working in public-facing areas, remaining approachable and courteous, and actively seeking opportunities to positively engage with guests.
Key Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience in AV equipment, installation, maintenance preferred.
- Additional experience with LAN, Live sound, microcontrollers, STL and G-Code not required but a plus.
- Moderate understanding of Windows and basic Windows software required
- Computer skills with emphasis on Adobe Creative Cloud products a plus
- Basic understanding of AC/DC voltage and wiring a plus
- Creative, problem-solving abilities and a “can do” attitude
- General knowledge of electronics
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work as a team player
- Valid Driver’s License in order to operate Aquarium vehicles
Full-time, hourly (Starting at $19.64/hour, commensurate with education and experience); Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:45 PM. Some weekends and evenings as needed.
