ROLE OVERVIEW
Pivot Energy, an ESG-focused independent power producer (IPP) for distributed renewable energy, is looking for an experienced and strategic thinker to lead our technology and data strategy. This role will architect and manage the infrastructure behind the people and processes that make our high-growth company scale.
This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer and play a vital role in scaling the Pivot Energy team by creating a nimble and future-ready organization through scalable information technology systems. In this role, you will own the technology roadmap and data strategy, and through internal and external teams, drive the organization toward data quality, business insights, and practical AI use cases.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic, results-oriented leader with experience establishing robust data governance programs and aligning diverse technology initiatives with business goals. Candidates with a strong track record of people-centric leadership, demonstrable examples of successful change management campaigns, and maturing technology systems at high-growth companies will be the most effective.
The role requires a leader focused on coaching and collaboration first and foremost with a commitment to building future-ready organizations. Therefore, a successful candidate for the VP, Technology & Data role should plan to learn the organization and commit to bringing a perpetual curiosity to the practical applications of big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to Pivot Energy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Technology vision, strategy & leadership
- Own and execute a long-term technology and data vision that aligns with Pivot’s mission and fuels operational excellence.
- Lead strategic high-level discussions and decision makings on data, system architecture, and systems integrations to ensure scalability, security, and data integrity in line with our corporate strategic plan. for a high-growth environment.
- Direct the strategy and thoughtful integration of AI, ML, and automation to enhance both internal operations and fleet performance.
- Establish governance frameworks to align software tools and product roadmaps across all departments, ensuring a cohesive tech ecosystem.
- Architect the systems and structures necessary to transform internal operational data into actionable business intelligence to improve business outcomes.
- Keep at the forefront of new and emerging technologies that align with Pivot’s strategy to expand the contribution of technology to business objectives.
- Lead the transition to enterprise-grade systems that support high-volume, complex operations.
- Operational Execution and Delivery
- Partner with stakeholders to deliver and lead organizational change management, ensuring new technologies are adopted and provide measurable business value.
- Establish clear performance metrics and SLAs for external partners, ensuring external spend translates into high-quality technical outcomes.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the IT organization to quantify the organization’s impact on business outcomes.
- Manage the technology budget and resource allocation to ensure technical investments are directly linked to Pivot’s evolving operational needs and long-term vision.
- Establish and refine delivery frameworks (e.g., Agile, DevOps) to improve transparency, predictability, and speed-to-market for technical projects.
- Governance, Security, and Risk
- Architect and lead comprehensive security initiatives, encompassing data protection and physical security, to safeguard company assets and sensitive information across all workspaces.
- Oversee and optimize a secure, reliable, and scalable technology infrastructure designed to support a dispersed workforce.
- Implement rigorous data and security governance frameworks that balance operational speed with necessary controls and compliance.
- Direct a highly responsive IT support organization focused on delivering seamless technical experiences and rapid issue resolution for both in-office and remote employees.
- Lead the IT organization through audits and future certifications as the company matures.
- Team & Culture Leadership
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing, multi-disciplinary organization, fostering a culture of ownership, inclusion, and continuous professional development.
- Drive leadership alignment through a systems-first approach, connecting technical and non-technical departments, processes, and decisions across functions to replace silos with shared ownership.
- Direct a highly responsive IT support organization focused on delivering seamless technical experiences and rapid issue resolution for both in-office and remote employees.
- Guide executive alignment on technology priorities, balancing stakeholder expectations and technology priorities to ensure sustainable growth.
- Model a progressive leadership style that balances team autonomy with strategic alignment, focusing on high-velocity execution and results-oriented measurement.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES - 10+ years of progressive technology experience, including at least 5 years in executive-level roles (VP or equivalent)
- Proven track record of building and maturing technology functions within companies experiencing rapid, non-linear growth
- Success in leading complex, enterprise-wide technology transformations and process automation initiatives
- Deep expertise across application management, such as Salesforce, Sage Intacct, Procore, Power BI, Azure, NetSuite, etc.
- Experience leading and mentoring distributed teams while fostering a culture of accountability and inclusion
- Demonstrated ability to navigate evolving business environments, bringing clarity to ambiguity and advocating for technology priorities at the executive level.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES- Experience with business intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), database management (SQL), or Python or other automation tools.
- Curiosity surrounding large datasets, large language models, or generative AI applications within the clean energy sector
- Interest in generating strong business relationships inside and outside of Pivot Energy

$190,000 - $240,000 a year
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The estimated base salary range for this position is $190,000 - $240,000, along with eligibility for the company’s substantial bonus plan, with a target bonus of 35% of annual salary (prorated in the first year based on start date). Compensation will be based on factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, certifications, skills, and experience.
