Internship Description: The City Manager’s Office of the City of Dunedin seeks a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support cross-departmental initiatives focused on public administration, environmental sustainability, and strategic planning over the Summer of 2026. This position is designed to give college students the opportunity to gain experience in the nexus of environmental sustainability and strategic planning and implementation for local government.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Support the City Manager’s Office with research, analysis, and project coordination related to public administration and strategic initiatives.
Assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of sustainability and climate-related policies and programs.
Coordinate with city departments to collect, analyze, and synthesize operational, environmental, and emissions data.
Prepare written materials including reports, memos, presentations, and briefing documents for leadership.
Assist with strategic planning efforts, performance measurement, and organizational improvement initiatives.
Participate in meetings, interdepartmental working groups, and community or stakeholder engagements as appropriate.
Assisting with planning public outreach events and attending public outreach events.
Internship Day-to-Day responsibilities:
Support and coordination for meetings, programs, and events.
Collect and organize data from multiple departments related to energy use, transportation, facilities, waste, and other emissions sources.
Conduct research on best practices in municipal sustainability, climate action planning, and public-sector management.
Analyze data and develop clear, concise summaries and visualizations for leadership review.
Draft internal memos, progress updates, and presentation materials for City Manager’s Office staff.
Track project milestones and support coordination across departments.
Provide general administrative and analytical support to the City Manager’s Office as needed.
Minimum Training & Experience
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Policy, Communication, or a similar degree.
Proficiency with presentation software (i.e. PowerPoint or Canva).
Proficiency with Adobe editing software is a plus.
Experience working with the public.
Excellent communication skills.
A desire to learn and take initiative with problem solving.
Florida driver’s license.

Internship Deliverables:
Support of the Business Economic Development Program (BEEP) by assisting with hosting an inaugural 6-week Business focused educational academy.
Completion of an organizational and city-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, including data collection; documentation of methodology, assumptions, summarizing findings; final report compilation and presentation.
Supporting research and analysis related to sustainability initiatives and strategic priorities.
Written reports, briefing materials, and presentations for executive and departmental audiences
