A little more about your role…
We’re looking for several Project Managers to join our Environmental Project Management Team. In this role, you’ll report to a Senior Environmental Project Manager and play an important part in delivering a wide range of environmentally focused projects across the UK, spanning both public- and private‑sector clients.
Our work is varied and impactful, covering some of the UK’s most exciting and nationally significant infrastructure programmes such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, Heathrow Expansion, East‑West Rail, and Sizewell C. We also support a broad mix of built‑environment and development schemes. Our clients operate across sectors including highways, rail, aviation, defence, nuclear, residential and property, energy generation and renewables, and transmission and distribution. We provide support throughout the full project lifecycle, from early business case development and securing consents and permits (including DCOs), through to design and construction.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead your own smaller projects while working alongside Senior Project Managers on major programmes giving you exposure, development, and room to grow. There will also be opportunities to line manage and mentor junior colleagues and to contribute to the ongoing development of our Environmental Project Management Team’s strategy.
- Support the development of project proposals including determining project requirements, scope, resources, programme, and cost estimates (budgets) for project delivery.
- Develop and maintain project management documentation including project management plans, cost estimates and forecasts, risk registers, project schedules, stakeholder registers, project organisation charts etc. to successfully deliver project objectives on smaller scale projects and assisting a Senior Project Manager on larger projects.
- Monitor and control the project schedule, staff hours, budgets, forecasts, and expenditure as well as project progress.
- Ensure that health and safety information for site visits, including securing internal approvals, are in place.
- Undertake contract management and contract administration.
- Actively manage project change and risks, ensuring that project governance is adhered to and projects are delivered compliant and optimised. You will work with technical teams and other specialists to adhere to contractual and scope agreements.
- Work with, lead, mentor and develop multi-disciplinary environmental project teams, consisting of technical/professional staff and suppliers.
- Promote and hold the project team accountable for delivery of environmental betterment, and future ready and net zero strategies.
- Present as the face of Environment and Consents when interfacing with other WSP teams and presenting as the face of WSP when interfacing with clients and stakeholders. Fostering and growing excellent relationships.
