About Inframark
Inframark is a leading provider of water and wastewater infrastructure operations and management services across the United States. We operate over 200 facilities serving millions of people, helping communities and industries maintain safe, reliable water systems. Our engineers don't just design infrastructure—they create solutions that protect public health, support economic growth, and ensure environmental stewardship.
The Opportunity
We're seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you'll design and deliver water and wastewater treatment systems from concept through commissioning—working on projects that range from municipal treatment plants to industrial facilities including food processing operations. You'll collaborate with operations teams, regulatory agencies, and clients to develop engineering solutions that meet today's challenges while planning for tomorrow's needs.
This is an ideal position for engineers who want to:
Make a tangible impact on communities and the environment
Work on diverse project types across municipal and industrial sectors
Advance toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure with company support
Grow from project execution into project leadership roles
What You'll Do
Engineering Design & Analysis
Design water and wastewater treatment systems including biological treatment, clarification, filtration, disinfection, and solids handling processes
Develop engineering plans, specifications, and calculations for treatment plant upgrades, expansions, and new construction
Create AutoCAD drawings including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), site plans, and construction details
Perform hydraulic modeling and engineering calculations to optimize system performance
Environmental Compliance & Permitting
Navigate EPA and state environmental regulations for water, wastewater, and stormwater systems
Prepare and submit permit applications, compliance reports, and regulatory documentation
Develop Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and environmental management programs
Conduct environmental compliance audits and provide recommendations for corrective actions
Project Execution & Client Interaction
Visit client sites to assess existing systems, collect data, and understand operational challenges
Support project management activities including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
Prepare technical proposals for new projects and business development opportunities
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including operations, construction, and automation/controls specialists
Provide commissioning support and troubleshooting assistance during project startup
Types of Projects You'll Work On
Municipal Treatment Plants: Design upgrades for 0.5-10 MGD facilities serving growing communities
Industrial Wastewater Systems: Food processing facilities (including meat processing plants), manufacturing operations, and agricultural industries
Regulatory Compliance Projects: Nutrient removal upgrades, permit limit compliance, environmental assessments
Process Optimization: Energy efficiency improvements, SCADA integration, automation enhancements
Capital Planning: Asset management studies, facility master planning, condition assessments
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Agricultural, or Chemical Engineering (ABET-accredited program preferred)
Licensure: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification at minimum; actively working toward Professional Engineer (PE) license
Technical Experience: 1-3 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering design, environmental compliance, or related field
Software Proficiency: AutoCAD (2D drafting), Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with ArcGIS or similar mapping tools
Communication Skills: Excellent technical writing and verbal communication; ability to explain complex engineering concepts to non-technical audiences
Mobility: Valid driver's license; ability to travel to client sites (up to 25-30% travel, primarily regional day trips)
Learning Mindset: Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with industry best practices
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license (strongly preferred for candidates with 4+ years of experience)
5+ years of experience in water/wastewater treatment design and environmental regulatory compliance
Deep knowledge of EPA and state environmental regulations (Clean Water Act, NPDES permitting, etc.)
Experience with process modeling software (GPS-X, BioWin, or similar)
Familiarity with industrial wastewater treatment, particularly food processing or agricultural sectors
Demonstrated ability to develop proposals, project scopes, budgets, and schedules
Track record of effective stakeholder presentations and client relationship management
Understanding of SCADA systems, instrumentation, and treatment plant automation
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
