The Senior Battery Systems Technician is responsible for performing battery testing and analysis following established battery testing standards and work instructions. Individuals in this role have extensive experience in test lab capabilities, standards, and writing test reports and presenting findings to project teams. They have the ability to lead projects, where assigned, and complex testing activities with minimal supervision in day-to day activities.
This role is an integral part of the New Product Development (NPD) process and will provide battery solution recommendations to meet product requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Support the New Product Development process with the development of battery systems following Klein Tools process.2. Setup and conduct tests of battery cells and battery packs per test plan and work instructions with no assistance.3. Accurately record test results of numerical and observed data and document with ability to detect data anomalies.4. Evaluate test results, create test reports, and make recommendations for improvement. Support Project Leaders in data analysis with some supervision.5. Develop battery charge and discharge testing profiles to simulate product energy useage.6. Prioritize work to align with the goals of various project development teams with no supervision.7. Technical interface to Klein Tools suppliers for battery related issues. Visit suppliers as needed to support New Product Development.8. Collaborate cross-functionally with project team leaders.9. Properly store, handle, and prepare battery cells and battery packs for testing.10. Keep inventory of battery cells and battery packs.11. Participate in the development of new battery test fixtures, test methods, and continuous improvement projects as assigned with no supervision.12. Detect and report equipment concerns and support maintenance where assigned. Support equipment calibration activities.13. Identify lab equipment needs and develop purchase proposals.14. Demonstrated experience in quality of work in soldering/rework of complex PCBAs.15. Utilization of complex electronic test and measurement equipment with no supervision.16. Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in mechanical, electrical, or other related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
Five (5) to seven (7) years of direct work experience with Li-Ion battery design, manufacturing, testing, test plan development, and validating battery solutions meet product requirements.
Expert understanding of Li-ion battery management and charging strategies and circuits.
Must have exceptional technical, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
Must have demonstrated experience facilitating complex projects and solutions with multiple interactions.
Ability to function in an environment of constantly changing priorities, goals and direction often amid stressful conditions and under time constraints.
Up to 10% international travel.
