Position Summary
The Health & Safety Coordinator provides on-site administrative and compliance support for the facility’s safety programs. This role focuses on documentation, permit systems, audits, and day-to-day safety coordination while working under the direction of site leadership and corporate safety management. The position supports, rather than owns, regulatory interpretation and program development. Responsibilities may expand over time as operational needs evolve.
This position will work in a swine gas processing facility, requiring awareness of biological, chemical, mechanical, and confined space hazards associated with that environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Administration & Compliance
- Maintain and manage safety documentation, policies, and records.
- Develop, update, and administer Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for site equipment.
- Review, issue, and track work permits, including hot work, confined space, and contractor permits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, etc.).
- Track corrective actions from audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Site Oversight & Audits
- Conduct routine site safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments.
- Monitor field activities to ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safe work practices.
- Verify compliance for hot work, confined space entry, energy isolation, and contractor safety requirements.
- Support safety walkthroughs with operations, engineering, and management.
- Program Support & Training
- Assist with implementation of site safety programs and standard operating procedures.
- Coordinate and document safety training, orientations, and job safety meetings.
- Maintain training records and ensure required certifications are current.
- Support safety committee activities and follow-up actions.
- Incident Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with incident reporting, documentation, and corrective action tracking; coordinate with site leadership and corporate safety on investigations.
- Help identify trends and recommend improvements to reduce risk and improve site safety performance.
- Support contractor safety reviews and onboarding.
- Other duties as required
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree or higher in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years in a safety, operations, maintenance, compliance, or industrial environment preferred.
- Safety certifications (OSHA, first aid/CPR, etc.) a plus but not required.
- Relevant industry or facility safety experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 & 29 CFR 1926), NFPA, and general industrial safety standards.
- Familiarity with LOTO, confined space, hot work, permit systems, PPE oversight, and site audits.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and administrative skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate clearly with field personnel, contractors, and management.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Work performed in an industrial setting with exposure to odors, noise, weather conditions, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb, crouch, and navigate plant equipment.
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection as needed.
- Work in and around a swine gas processing facility and associated infrastructure.
Travel
- Minimal travel required; primarily site-based.
Additional Information
This position is intended as a coordinator-level role with a strong administrative focus. Responsibilities may expand as operational needs grow or as the facility and safety programs evolve. Full time in office with potential for hybrid work after construction phase is complete. $50,000–$60,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
