Job Role : Design Lead – WTG (Instrumentation)
Reports to (Job – Role) : Section Head – Wind
Reportee (Job – Role) : Design Engineer, Draughts Person
Minimum Qualification : BE Electronics Instrumentation Engineering / ICE (Instrumentation and Control Engineering) or M. Tech. (Instrumentation or Automation)
Experience : 7–10 years (Must have experience in design aspects of Wind Turbine Generator Projects / Power Distribution Projects)
Objective
As Design Lead (Instrumentation), the person shall be capable of reviewing & executing Engineering Activities of Instrumentation / Automation of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Projects.
He shall facilitate the modellers in development of BIM 3D Model for WTG towers, nacelles, hubs, met masts, and WTG substations.
In addition, she / he has to coordinate with other departments including Inter‑departmental checks covering Civil/ Structural, Electrical, MEP and others. The Design Lead (Instrumentation) shall be required to provide support for the engineering activities covering the full cycle of works from pre‑bid engineering to support during commissioning and warranty periods and to extend support to site team.
She / He shall lead a team of Design Engineers and Draughts Persons to manage the Engineering activities within budget, deliver on time and maintaining a high quality of engineering.
Key Responsibilities
• Timely Delivery of Engineering Drawings & Documents
• Ensure deliveries are aligned to Project Schedule
• Review drawings by Design Engineers & Draughts Persons. Checking of design & sizing calculations of engineering electrical equipment and obtaining approvals from the client
• Review of Vendor deliverables pertaining to Engineering
• Capable of Multitasking and deliver multiple things on time
• Estimate and Plan man-hour requirements
• Review BOQ and submit to contracts team and providing technical clarifications
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines for ensuring inter-departmental checks
• Provide support & clarifications to the Site Execution team
• Check pre-award evaluation of vendors (w.r.t. technical specifications requirement of the client) and forward the validation document to Supply Chain Management
• Inspect equipment from the finalized vendor after submission of validation document of the vendor
• Clarify issues w.r.t. the design & requirements of the client to the Site Execution Team
• Collect inputs for project details from client & Project Engineering Manager
• Coordinating with Operations team and informing Design specifications for obtaining approval
• Collect inputs for project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from Vendors
Wind‑specific deliverables:
• Check deliverables such as WTG Instrumentation and JB Location Layout, Control Room Layout, F&G Location Layout, CCTV Location Layout, Earthing Layout, Cable Tray Routing Layout, Access Control System Layout, EPAX System Layout
• Provide support to Electrical AC/DC, Civil /Structural for reviewing Vendor drawings related to WTG foundations, tower internals, nacelle systems, and WTG‑substation interface
• Submit requirement of man-hours for undertaking & reviewing of design & drawings of the project
Technical Expertise
The Design Lead (Instrumentation) is required to have an overall knowledge of equipment layouts and necessary calculations. Expertise in PLC/SCADA system, Met station system, cable selections, Telecom, CCTV systems, ACS (Access Control system), System Integration, third party equipment integration system. Well versed in all the protocols of communication systems. He / She is also required to have knowledge in Electrical and Mechanical Equipment.
Wind‑specific expertise:
• Detailed knowledge of WTG instrumentation, including vibration sensors, temperature sensors, anemometers, wind vanes, pitch/yaw control systems, hydraulic systems, and Condition Monitoring Systems (CMS)
• Knowledge of WTG SCADA architecture, turbine‑to‑substation communication, fibre‑optic networks, and remote monitoring systems
• Knowledge of met mast instrumentation, wind measurement systems, and IEC standards for wind resource assessment
• Understanding of WTG safety systems, lightning protection, earthing systems, tower internal cabling, and turbine automation
• Knowledge on National and International Codes and Standards applicable to Wind Turbine Generator Projects
The Design Lead (Instrumentation) is required to understand and interpret the contractual technical requirements and facilitate the Project Teams as and when required.
