PURPOSE
This Natural Resource Management Assistant is an AmeriCorps position. Park resource management has focused on resource documentation from a cultural resource lens. This project would project to expand known natural resources to help management best protect and preserve these assets. The park has minimal baseline information for known species, primarily focused on those documented in Cultural Landscape Reports and Inventories. In 2017, the Park hosted a BioBlitz focused at the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm. Desire to host another BioBlitz would focus on the Carter Home and Gardens property which is now under full administrative control of the NPS after President Carter's passing in December 2024. Observing and identifying species both independently and with researchers would provide the Park with information for more accurate reporting and potential compliance impacts for any currently unknown threatened or endangered species.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
This position would support the Interpretation and Resource Management division at Jimmy Carter National Historical Park. Project would be focused on expanding park documentation of natural resource species. SIP participant would support preparation of a potential fall BioBlitz.

QUALIFICATIONS
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
- Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award
- Prior to starting the position, agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check for the employer of record, Conservation Legacy, and a separate government security background check for the host site.
- The applicant must be available to participate for the entire 12 Weeks in order to be considered and participate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and/or relevant coursework for species identification.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalents.
ADDITIONAL POSITION AND COMMUNITY INFORMATION
POSITION SETTING
As small NPS unit, all staff strive to service and learn as team, often crossing division lines. Projects will be conducted on-site at the park, both indoors and outdoors. Winter/spring temperatures range from 50s-upper 70s with some colder or hotter temperatures and period of high humidity and severe storms.
VEHICLE AND DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Applicant must have a valid driver's license to drive a government vehicle.
- A personal vehicle is REQUIRED for this position.
HOUSING
Park housing is NOT available. The selected candidate will be responsible for finding housing in the nearby area.
There is no park provided housing available. However, if recruitment efforts are focused on local universities and the local community that increases the likelihood of selected candidate already have housing. If the selected SIP is not local, the park staff will assist in helping them find safe, clean, and affordable housing within about a 20 minute drive to the parks, just as they assist new employees. Housing costs and the cost of living in the area are extremely low. For example: a 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment (water included) is currently listed for about $550 a month. If the SIP still has trouble finding housing, the park staff have community connections that may be able to assisting in finding suitable housing.

TIME REQUIREMENTS
- This position is expected to serve full time each week, but exact service schedules may vary based on project needs. Lunch breaks and days off will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service hours.
- Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
ORIENTATION AND TRAINING
- Member will receive pertinent project and site training from host site throughout term
- Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.

EVALUATION AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of minimum AmeriCorps hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
