The Finance Intern will join the Finance & Strategy function at a Series B-stage advanced battery manufacturing startup during a period of rapid scale, capital deployment, and operational complexity. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the intern will work on high-impact projects spanning financial modeling, manufacturing economics, capital planning, systems automation, and strategic decision support. This role is designed for a highly motivated, analytically rigorous individual who wants direct exposure to building a world-class, AI-enabled finance function from the ground up. The intern will operate as a true thought partner to the Head of Finance, with visibility across the C-suite into board-level analysis, fundraising dynamics, and the financial infrastructure required to scale a capital-intensive business.
Responsibilities
Build and refine financial models supporting:
- Manufacturing unit economics (BOM, yield, throughput, labor, overhead absorption)
- Capacity expansion and capex planning
- Long-range operating and cash flow forecasts
Partner with the Head of Finance to design and implement AI-first finance workflows, including:
- Automated reporting and variance analysis complete with dashboard visuals
- Scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis
- AI-assisted forecasting, planning, and insight generation
Support post-Series B financial execution, including:
- Budgeting and cash burn management
- Investor and board reporting materials
- KPI definition and dashboard development
Analyze data across engineering, operations, and supply chain to translate technical realities into financial insights
Assist in evaluating strategic initiatives such as:
- New manufacturing lines or facilities
- Make vs. buy decisions
- Supplier negotiations and cost-down roadmaps
Help select, implement, and integrate finance systems (ERP, FP&A tools, data stack) appropriate for a scaling manufacturing company
Conduct ad hoc analyses to support executive decision-making in a fast-moving environment
Must-have Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving ability; comfortable working with incomplete or ambiguous data
Strong financial fundamentals, including:
- Financial statements and cash flow mechanics
- Basic corporate finance and valuation concepts
Advanced proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets, including complex models and sensitivity analysis
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and operate independently with minimal oversight
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts succinctly
High ownership mentality, intellectual curiosity, and comfort working directly with senior leadership
Strong interest in hard tech, manufacturing, and building real-world products at scale
Nice-to-have Qualifications
Prior experience in:
- Investment banking, private equity, venture capital, consulting, or startup finance
- Manufacturing, hardware, energy, or industrial companies
Familiarity with:
- Unit economics modeling for physical products
- Capex-intensive business models
- Cost accounting and inventory concepts
Experience using or building with AI tools (e.g., LLMs, Python, SQL, automation platforms) to improve analytical workflows
Exposure to ERP, FP&A, or data visualization tools (e.g., NetSuite, Anaplan, Looker, Tableau)
Programming or data skills (Python, SQL, R) applied to financial or operational analysis
Entrepreneurial background (founder, early startup employee, or side projects)
Long-term interest in pursuing a career in startup finance, operations leadership, or founding a company
