We are seeking a driven Residential & Small Commercial Operations Manager to join our Affordable Solar team. This role has full ownership of residential and small commercial operations—from sales handoff through installation, closeout, and ongoing service. The Operations Manager is responsible for building and running the operating system that supports permitting, scheduling, purchasing, inventory, job readiness, quality control, and service performance. This is a high-accountability leadership role focused on planning, execution, and people management, with regular field coordination.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Own residential and small commercial project execution from sales handoff through installation, closeout, and customer wrap-up, ensuring projects progress efficiently and without unnecessary delays.
- Coordinate permitting, inspections, utility interconnections, and AHJ requirements; actively track progress and drive all steps to completion.
- Manage installation scheduling, sequencing, and crew capacity; maintain a 2–6 week forward-looking production plan to support consistent field execution.
- Ensure job readiness by confirming scope clarity, material availability, site preparedness, and accurate scheduling prior to crew mobilization.
- Oversee purchasing workflows, vendor coordination, and material procurement to support job-ready installs and reduce emergency purchases.
- Maintain accurate inventory controls, including receiving, tracking, counts, and warehouse organization to minimize shrink and downtime.
- Partner with Accounting to ensure clean cost tracking, with disciplined management of purchase orders, receipts, vendor invoices, and job cost reconciliation.
- Own residential operations workflows within company systems, including Microsoft Dynamics ERP and permitting, utility, and customer portals; ensure data integrity, visibility, and reporting accuracy.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, dashboards, and operating rhythms that improve execution consistency and prevent repeat issues.
- Lead residential service operations, including intake, prioritization, scheduling, execution, and closeout of service work.
- Identify recurring service drivers and implement root-cause solutions to reduce rework and improve customer satisfaction.
- Lead, coach, and hold operations staff and field teams accountable through clear expectations, performance feedback, and follow-through.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Accounting, and Field leadership to ensure clean handoffs, aligned priorities, and timely issue resolution.
- Provide regular reporting to leadership on production performance, service metrics, risks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
QualificationsRequirements and qualifications
- 5+ years in operations leadership for construction/trades/solar/field services (or comparable schedule-driven operations).
- 3+ years managing people (crews, coordinators, warehouse/logistics, or similar) with clear accountability.
- Strong scheduling and planning instincts (capacity, sequencing, job readiness).
- Ownership mindset: drives problems to resolution and builds systems that prevent repeat issues.
- Comfort partnering across departments (Sales, Accounting, Field) and keeping priorities aligned.
- Strong computer proficiency and ability to learn/use enterprise systems daily (ERP/CRM/portals).
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
Preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (or similar ERP) and disciplined purchasing/inventory processes.
- Experience working with AHJ permitting, inspection scheduling, and utility interconnection steps/portals.
- Solar/residential electrical experience (helpful, not required).
