Corporate Sustainability Manager
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a proactive, highly organised Corporate Sustainability Manager to join the Corporate Sustainability team and help advise and support the business deliver Schroders’ own corporate sustainability commitments. It is a multi-disciplinary role including co-ordination of client query responses, oversight of corporate sustainability policies and procedures, development and execution of external communications and reporting, and management of our approach to prevent modern slavery in our operations and supply chain.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a similar role, preferably in-house with knowledge of key sustainability issues, in particular modern slavery, sustainability regulations, communications and reporting. Based in London or Horsham, the role reports into the Global Head of Corporate Sustainability, who is responsible for all corporate sustainability activity across the organisation.
You need to be both a strategic-thinker and pragmatic in implementation, enjoying the challenges that come with working on enterprise-wide initiatives. What you'll do
You will be part of a small and dedicated team supporting Schroders maintain its high level of responsible business standards and meet its own sustainability commitments. You’ll manage, co-ordinate and own multiple cross-functional initiatives and projects across the year. These are varied and include:
- Management of client queries
- Ensure corporate sustainability responses to client RfPs or DDQs are accurate and effectively demonstrate our actions. This requires keeping information up-to-date and co-ordinating across other business units
- Develop and evolve key corporate sustainability documentation for internal and external use.
- Oversight of external positioning and communications
- Draft and co-ordinate annual update of Group position statements
- Review and update website content
- Identify opportunities, draft and co-ordinate external communications
- Manage submission to external benchmarks, such as Sustainalytics, UN Global Compact and World Benchmarking Alliance
- Manage the internal monitoring process for Group sustainability commitments.
- Lead strategy and implementation of human rights and anti-modern slavery approach
- Monitor and analyse global modern slavery legislation and guidance
- Manage the production of the annual Modern Slavery Statement, from drafting to publication
- Collaborate with Procurement and Legal to manage the risk assessment and due diligence of our own operations and supply chain
- Develop guidance for internal stakeholders and suppliers to support good practice, and review and implement annual modern slavery training for employees
- Review and respond to any external queries or assessments e.g. the CCLA Modern Slavery Benchmark
- Participate in industry groups and external initiatives to inform improvements and good practice.
- Support strategy development and implementation
- Produce quarterly management information, dashboards and reporting packs for e.g. for the Group Sustainability and Impact Committee
- Prepare briefings for Board requests and updates
- Ad hoc research and analysis on emerging issues
- Implement efficiency and insight improvements (including championing digitisation efforts, including AI adoption) and best practice.
Key competencies
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Highly organised with demonstrable project management to time and budget, with competing deadline
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparing corporate reports and briefing materials for committee and Board meetings
- Advanced data literacy and analytical skills using Excel and presenting in PowerPoint
- Proven stakeholder management and influencing skills, from senior management to wider staff
- Proactive, resourceful self-starter
- A team player, ready to roll sleeves up and support where needed.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
- Strong interest and knowledge of core and emerging sustainability issues and responsible business practices
- A few (3-5) years’ experience working on sustainability issues in a business environment
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing multiple projects within tight deadlines
- Proven success of working collaboratively across cross-functional teams
- Proven stakeholder management and influencing skills.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
- A few years’ sustainability experience in an in-house corporate sustainability function
- Understanding of sustainability regulations and frameworks, in particular the sustainability reporting landscape (e.g. ISSB, TCFD, Modern Slavery Act)
- Line management experience.
