Environmental Summer Student
Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide environmental, management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Our mission is to support sustainable economic development within the Simpcw’ulécw (Simpcw Territory) by delivering high-quality services to both public- and private-sector clients.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Project Management Team, the Environmental Summer Student will support a wide range of environmental assessments, field programs and reporting activities. This position offers hands-on experience in environmental consulting and fieldwork, working alongside experienced professionals on real-world projects throughout Simpcw Territory.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with environmental field surveys and assessments (e.g., wildlife and wildlife habitat, species at risk, vegetation and wetlands, fish and fish habitat, and environmental monitoring programs).
- Support data collection and analysis for various environmental projects.
- Participate in habitat restoration, conservation, and reclamation activities.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports, figures, and tables.
- Conduct literature reviews and background research on environmental topics.
- Support community engagement and outreach activities, where applicable.
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams on project planning and implementation.
- Follow all health and safety requirements, safe work procedures, and field safety plans.
- Participate in safety orientations, training, and tailgate safety meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position is designed to provide practical, real-world experience in environmental consulting. The Environmental Summer Student will have opportunities to:
- Gain hands-on experience with environmental field methods and monitoring techniques.
- Learn how environmental data are collected, managed and incorporated into professional technical reports.
- Develop field safety awareness, hazard identification skills and safe work practices in remote and industrial environments.
- Work alongside senior biologists, environmental professionals and project managers.
- Increase familiarity with regulatory frameworks, permitting requirements and Indigenous stewardship values in British Columbia.
- Build professional communication, teamwork and time-management skills.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
- Strong interest in environmental protection, conservation, and Indigenous land stewardship.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; and physically capable of completing field tasks safely, including hiking, carrying field equipment, and working in remote locations.
- Ability to work long field days (up to 12 hours) and extended field rotations (up to 14 days).
- Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally with project managers, supervisors, clients, field partners and landowners.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to recognize hazards and proactively communicate safety concerns.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); GIS or data analysis experience is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence is preferred.
