Description
Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Delivering on this mission requires operational excellence across every function — including the financial systems that enable Fervo to scale rapidly and responsibly. Joining Fervo’s Accounting team means supporting the backbone of a fast-growing clean energy company, maintaining high standards of accuracy, reliability, and control as we reinvent how geothermal projects are delivered.
We are seeking a Revenue Accountant to own revenue recognition, settlement, and reconciliation for Fervo’s power sales and related commercial arrangements. This role is critical as Fervo transitions from development into operations and begins executing under complex PPAs and energy market structures. The ideal candidate brings deep experience from a power, IPP, utility, or merchant trading environment, strong technical instincts, and a passion for reconciling complex data across systems and counterparties.
This is a highly cross-functional role that will help design, build, and operate revenue accounting processes for the first time at scale
Description
As the Revenue Accountant, you will be responsible for end-to-end revenue accounting for Fervo’s commercial operations, including PPA accounting, settlement, invoicing, and revenue recognition under ASC 606. You will partner closely with Commercial, Operations, Market Analytics, and Finance to ensure revenue is accurately recorded, reconciled, and reported.
You will play a foundational role in building repeatable processes, controls, and documentation as Fervo generates its first meaningful revenues and scales its operating portfolio. This role provides an opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow within a rapidly scaling organization.
Requirements
Responsibilities
Revenue Accounting & Settlement Ownership
- Own revenue recognition for power sales and related arrangements in accordance with ASC 606, including contract review, identification of performance obligations, and revenue recognition timing.
- Manage monthly revenue close processes, including settlement calculations, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and review complex power sales invoices, ensuring accuracy of pricing, volumes, and contractual terms (beyond simple PxQ invoicing).
- Reconcile generation data, market settlements, counterparty statements, and internal systems to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Partner with Commercial and Market Operations teams to understand PPA structures, settlement mechanics, and market rules.
- Apply ownership interests per executed leases, ensure accurate revenue allocations, and process timely payments to royalty owners.
- Investigate and resolve variances between operational data and settlement statements.
Process Design, Controls & Audit Readiness
- Build and document scalable revenue accounting and settlement processes as Fervo generates and grows meaningful revenue for the first time.
- Design and implement internal controls, checklists, and documentation to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and audit readiness.
- Improve data flows and handoffs across teams and systems (operational data - settlement models - invoicing - GL), identifying automation opportunities and reducing manual risk.
- Prepare revenue-related schedules and technical support for audits and reporting (e.g., contract summaries, revenue memos, tie-outs).
Team and Culture
- Demonstrate extreme ownership of accuracy, completeness, and integrity of revenue data and financial reporting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with a “builder” mindset—constructing processes, clarifying ambiguity, and creating alignment across stakeholders.
- Bring strong technical instincts and a love of reconciling data—digging into root causes and continuously improving how work gets done.
- Operate with urgency, adaptability, and resilience in a fast-scaling, high-performance environment, contributing to a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
