DescriptionThe FTL Operations Manager is responsible for the end-to-end execution of full truckload shipments. This involves sourcing vehicles, managing vendor relationships, ensuring 100% placement of trucks against demand, and tracking shipments to ensure on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.
- Sourcing & Placement: Ensure 100% daily vehicle placement for all lanes. Build and maintain a robust network of fleet owners, transporters, and brokers.
- Vendor Management: Onboard new vendors, negotiate freight rates (contracts and spot market), and manage vendor performance through periodic ratings.
- Operational Execution: Supervise the "indent-to-delivery" cycle. Coordinate with site teams (like your solar project sites) to ensure readiness for unloading.
- Cost Optimization: Monitor freight market trends to reduce the "Cost per Ton/Kilometer." Implement route optimization to reduce transit times.
- Tracking & Visibility: Utilize GPS and TMS (Transportation Management Systems) to provide real-time updates to B2B clients and internal stakeholders.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all vehicles comply with legal requirements (RC, Insurance, Fitness) and that safety protocols for loading fragile cargo (e.g., solar modules) are followed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of Indian trucking markets, regional "mandi" rates, and vehicle types
- Negotiation: Ability to negotiate with tough transport unions and brokers to secure competitive rates.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP) to analyze TAT and cost data.
- Leadership: Experience managing a team of field executives or "traffic" coordinators.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with Logistics apps, GPS tracking platforms, and ERPs like SAP or Oracle.
