Role Overview

Malachite is searching for an enthusiastic and driven Graduate Engineer for Solar Project Development to join our Cape Town team in a full-time, on-site role. This is a unique opportunity to launch your engineering career at the cutting edge of solar technology. You will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and optimisation of solar energy projects, working closely with industry experts to deliver world-class solutions.

Working Environment

Office-based role at the Cape Town office
Collaborative work environment with engineering and commercial teams
Local, Regional and limited International travel will be required
Fast-paced project development environment with multiple concurrent deliverables
Supportive supervision and mentorship

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the planning, design, and development of photovoltaic (PV) systems for on-site solar projects.
Support project feasibility assessments, site investigations, and technical reviews to determine optimal system configurations.
Participate in financial modelling and project budgeting, working with commercial and finance teams to assess project viability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, and permitting, to drive projects from concept to completion.
Preparation of tender documentation, proposals and presentations for delivery to the customer
Ensure projects adhere to local and international solar energy standards, codes, and regulations.
Contribute to continuous improvement by analysing system performance, identifying optimisation opportunities, and implementing best practices.
Engage in client communications, presentations, and stakeholder meetings as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a closely related discipline together with a minimum of Matric Level Accounting (to be demonstrated as part of the application)
A strong interest in solar energy systems and commitment to sustainable development.
Affinity for financial modelling and a solid, demonstratable knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities with keen attention to detail.
Effective communication and teamwork skills—comfortable engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
Familiarity with system design and simulation software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD) is an advantage.
Previous internship or project experience in the solar energy sector is advantageous but not essential.
