DescriptionThis Environmental Health& Safety Specialist, located in our Columbus, OH plant,is responsible for ensuring that facility’s compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations/agencies by developing and implementing environmental and employee safety programs, conducting inspections, investigating incidents, and training employees. Key responsibilities include creating a safe work environment, minimizing environmental impact, and managing hazards related to both people and the environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws
- Program development: Create, implement, and monitor EHS policies and safety programs
- Inspections and audits: Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify and correct potential hazards
- Incident investigation: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
- Training and education: Develop and provide safety training to employees on topics such as proper equipment use, emergency response, and regulatory requirements
- Emergency preparedness: Play a role in emergency response planning and disaster recovery efforts
- Risk assessment: Identify and evaluate potential health and environmental hazards and assess the effectiveness of control mechanisms
- Reporting: Maintain records and prepare reports on safety performance and regulatory compliance
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years EH&S work experience in a manufacturing facility is required. A bachelor's degree in a related field (such as Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene) may help compensate for some experience
- Excellent communication skills, including being bilingual (English & Spanish) is highly preferred to present information clearly and train our diverse workforce
- Experience working with and reporting to Federal and State (OSHA, EPA/DEP, etc.) agencies, including a solid understanding of their associated regulations and standards
- Experience with Hazardous Waste Management, including permitting for Air, Stormwater, and Industrial Water Discharge
- Experience overseeing employee safety programs, including implementation/adherence, training/educating, and incident investigations to reduce workplace injuries
- Intermediate computer skills, including not limited to Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Exceptional reading comprehension and attention to detail manage documentation and ensure compliance
- Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to address unique safety and environmental challenges
- Certifications in Environmental and/or Health & Safety related programs preferred
- Demonstrated ability to grow and accept challenges
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
