Real Time Trader

We have a vacancy for a RT Trader to join our US team based in Austin, Texas. This role will predominantly be based on-site in our Austin office and will involve shift work (to include weekend and overnight hours).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Optimizing physical and financial trading positions within day ahead and real-time electricity markets with a key focus of maximizing value capture for clients’ battery storage, wind and solar assets, including strategies for Ancillary Services and DART trading for renewables.
- Undertaking market analysis to understand near term supply and demand dynamics, competitor strategies and transmission constraints to identify opportunities to maximize gross margin .
- Scoping required internal tools and operational processes which will enable scalability and success for the business
- Supporting asset onboarding and ISO related monitoring and documentation requests as needed.
- Assessing real-time market opportunities and risk while managing client assets and maintaining compliance as part of our shift desk rotation.
Preferred skills and experience:
- Experience or strong interest in a short-term power trading role managing dispatch of physical assets and executing on trading strategies in physical and financial markets.
- Attention to detail and ability to adhere to strict operating protocols including ERCOT business practices and nodal protocols as well as NERC operating guidelines.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex issues in an accessible way and to prioritize workload in a time-pressured environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for developing trust with clients, third-party vendors, and teammates.
- Ability to exercise good judgement in high pressure, high-value situations and provide justification for decisions.
- Flexibility to participate in the shift desk rotation (weekends and over night).
‘Nice to have’ skills and experience:
- Knowledge of the operations, rules, infrastructure and key players of the ERCOT market.
- Direct experience managing battery storage, wind, or solar technologies in competitive power markets
- Knowledge of the drivers of real-time power and ancillary services market prices and the opportunities they create for asset owners.
- Previous experience of regulatory/System Operator engagement and/or set-up of a trading and operations desk in ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, etc.
- Experience in risk management or post-trade analytics.
- Working knowledge of Python (Pandas, etc.), as well as experience querying relational databases (e.g. SQL)
- Comfort presenting to clients, board members, prospective clients.
