Job Description and Duties
Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Complete Streets Supervisor, incumbent must retain a Class A Commercial Drivers License and will operate equipment, construction machinery, vehicles and tools. Incumbent will perform labor intensive work during emergency operation and work associated with maintaining the state highway system specializing in Complete Streets (Sidewalk, crosswalk, and bike ways) facilities including performing field site inventory evaluation and condition assessment of Complete Streets facilities. May travel to remove locations and stay overnight to meet department needs.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the CALTRANS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position located at District 11/Maintenance Division/West Region, San Diego County.
This is a Limited Term position which may be extended to 24 months or become permanent.
The work is physically demanding and requires stamina. In addition, the job will require incumbent to work on or near roadways with a high volume of vehicular traffic. Incumbent will be required to work with and around heavy equipment, hot and/or pressurized materials/chemicals used for highway maintenance work. Incumbent can expect to be outside in all types of weather and environmental conditions. Work load includes entering confined spaces which are commonly dirty, wet and have little to no lighting.
The highway Right-of-Way in this area is attractive to trespassers who commonly erect illegal encampments. The encampments are prone to; rodent infestation, biological wastes and illicit drug paraphernalia. Necessary shift changes will occur due to workload or weather related circumstances. Incumbent will be required to work irregular shifts, including weekends, nights, holidays and in emergency situations. The incumbent will be expected answer calls after normal working hours to respond to unforeseen conditions needing immediate attention or emergencies.
