The Colorado Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to provide our communities, State, and nation with a ready military force for national defense and state emergency response as well as providing assistance to our Colorado veterans. Description of Job
This position is located at Joint Force Headquarters in Centennial, Colorado. This position serves to provide environmental field activities/operations in support of the Colorado National Guard and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- auditing, waste sampling, analyzing and monitoring environmental compliance, planning and program/project review, assisting with characterization, managing, storing, and disposing of wastes;
- implementing the priorities for organizational compliance program targets and objectives;
- complying with environmental laws, regulations, executive orders, biological options and policies governing natural and cultural resources;
- reviewing and evaluating environmental projects and activities for conservation targets and objectives;
- implementing program activities to reduce the quantity of hazardous/non-hazardous wastes through source reduction/process change;
- developing and maintaining waste stream analysis and opportunity assessments to reduce pollution;
- traveling among assigned regions;
- assisting in the development of departmental budget to ensure that valid environmental programs are properly identified, justified, and considered in program work plans; and
- managing assigned program funds efficiently and assist with program funds distribution and obligation.

Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years of professional experience in conducting environmental compliance audits, evaluating violations and determining corrective action. Please make certain this is notated on your application in a clear and concise manner.
OR
Education and Experience:- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental discipline, hazardous materials, or closely related field as determined by the department (please attach unofficial transcripts to on-line application to be considered). AND
- One year of experience in conducting environmental compliance audits, evaluating violations and determining corrective action.
OR
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental discipline, hazardous materials, or closely related field as determined by the department (unofficial transcripts of Master's degree must be attached for consideration).
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to candidates with the following skill set:
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and concepts of U.S. Army Units and Organizations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and SharePoint.
- Experience in conducting Environmental Compliance audits for RCRA, CWA, CAA, 40 CFR.
Conditions of Employment- Possess and maintain a current and valid Colorado Driver's License
- Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be willing to travel within the State of Colorado in assigned region.
- Employment is conditional upon passing a military background check and obtaining a national security clearance within six months of employment.
- Must be willing to work 4 days a week, 10 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
