The Department of Environment has a GradCorps internship opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Officer. This position applies and assists with the development of policies and protocols, issues permits, and reviews technical information related to contaminated sites, hydrogeology, and soil science. The employee will have an opportunity to develop existing skills like communication, research and analysis This position will also ensure the compliance of regulated activities as they relate to the management and protection of land, air and water through inspections, compliance, promotion, enforcement and education.
This position will work for a one-year Term from approximately May 2026 to May 2027. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary - $71,763

Essential Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Natural Resources Law Enforcement, Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement, Natural Resource Protection, Chemistry, Hydrogeology, Resource Management Officer Technology, Engineering, Environmental or related field.
- Coursework or previous experience related to procedure, legislation or regulation development is an asset. If you have this experience, please be sure to include specific details in your CV or cover letter.
- Basic understanding of environmental conditions and inspection principles is an asset.
- Experience comparing data to environmental standards is considered an asset. If you possess this experience, please highlight it with relevant examples in your CV or cover letter.

- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to conduct research and perform analysis
- Knowledge or interest in developing standards and/or policy and associated materials
- Knowledge or interest in interpreting and applying rules, legislation and regulations

Additional Information
Conditions of Employment:Class 5 Yukon Drivers’ License.
Job Requirements: Must be willing to travel throughout the Yukon. Respond to calls from the Yukon Spill Report Line. This requires availability for shifts covering 24/7 service on a rotational coverage basis.
NOTE: To qualify for the GradCorps program, you must:
• be a resident of Yukon or a person of Yukon First Nations ancestry*
• have graduated with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution within the past two years (2024, 2025 or 2026 grads – all requirements for graduation must be complete before internship start date)
• have little or no work experience in your field of study
*If you are a resident of Yukon who completed your studies outside of the territory, you may apply up to two years after graduation
