The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Fleet Mechanic (Craftsperson), you are responsible for skilled and semi-skilled labor tasks in various job assignments regarding the train and other Zoo vehicles. In addition, you will collaborate with the Lead Mechanic - Rides daily to assess and complete all assigned tasks and projects. Typically, you will be under the direct supervision of a Manager. Still, many routine and repetitive tasks may be completed without difficulty and under general supervision.
As a Fleet Mechanic, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Able to perform diagnostic tests to identify and develop corrective action plans in automotive mechanical systems.
- Able to keep proper documentation on preventive maintenance and work performed on the fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of hand tools and simple equipment used in performing assigned jobs.
- Safely operate Zoo vehicles, including dump, pick up, and flatbed trucks, forklifts, and personal lift equipment.
- Maintain Zoo vehicles and other powered equipment.
- Assist various Craftspersons with assigned projects.
- Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Zoo Standard Operating Procedures, SA Zoo Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
- Have the ability to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions applicable to the Zoo environment.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- One-year trade experience, including the use of tools and equipment.
- You must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
- This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License or a valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 45 days of becoming employed.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
