Internship Overview
Powell’s 10-week paid internship program offers college students hands-on experience, professional training, and the opportunity to make an impact through a meaningful project aligned with your field of study. As an Automation Engineering Intern, you’ll focus on standard designs while gaining valuable skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Project Focus
- Intern Project:
- Control Panel Design Standardization
- Expected Deliverables:
- Produce standard Panel Design templates that are aligned with HMI Standardization
- Implement required I/O for displaying on HMI
- Start-up drawing designs for Engineers to use
- Develop learning materials to inform new hires (Intro, FAQs, show and tell, I/O introduction, Communications introduction, common design issues to avoid, impacts from design variations, etc.)
- Produce standard work procedure to inform new hires during Onboarding
- How does this project benefit Powell or your functional area?
- Currently, there are no work instructions or Onboarding materials within the Engineering team that current and new employees can reference and follow. As we prepare towards ISO certification, this will help the team improve processes and Onboarding.

Who We’re Looking For
- We seek motivated, curious, and driven students with the following qualifications:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Rising Junior or Senior continuing studies in Fall 2027.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA and strong academic standing.
- Team player with strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter with a dependable, can-do attitude.
- Bonus Skills: Experience with automation software.
