Licensed Resident Engineer - RANGE D
Under direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer (a Senior Transportation Engineer), incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Will assign work, give instructions, make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility.

Working Conditions
Position located in 140 Dubois Street, Suite E, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County. Job will have exposure to night work, field work, earthwork, paving operations, lab work, fog, weather conditions, chemicals, lab conditions, equipment, machinery, heat, cold, dust, gas, fumes, outdoor conditions, indoor conditions, humidity, and high decibels of noise. Hardhat and safety vest or approved safety shirt, and eye protection must be worn at all times in the field. Valid California driver's license is desired. Travel is required. Overtime may be required.

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required.
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12-point Arial font.
Knowledge of:
- Contract administration paperwork and documentation.
- Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications and Special Provisions.
- Highway and bridge construction, design engineering and cost estimating.
Ability to:
- Administer construction contracts and interpret contract documents.
- Serve as a lead worker, coordinate/assign work and provide direction to staff.
- Communicate with Contractors to provide direction and resolve conflicts.
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships and be an effective team member.
- Obtain or possess a CA Professional Engineer License.
