Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of the Chief, Office of Maintenance Engineering (a Supervising Transportation Engineer), this position will have varied and difficult transportation engineering work involving the supervision of civil engineers and others engaged in the development and design of HM projects. Directs and supervises Transportation Engineers (Civil) Ranges A-D, Transportation Engineering Technicians and Associate Governmental Program Assistants in the application of traffic engineering principles and methods, primarily in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E). The incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of the HM CFD by serving as a two‑hat project manager. Other major responsibilities include scheduling and resourcing project work plans, resolving project related delivery issues interfacing with project support units. Also, the incumbent will be part of the District’s Emergency Response Team. PE Registration is required.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position located 703 B Street. Marysville, Yuba County.
While in the office setting, the employee will work in a climate‑controlled office under artificial lighting. This position requires extensive travel throughout the district and may also be required to travel and work outdoors. May be exposed to traffic, dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold. Emergency response and work at night and weekends will be required as needed.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in‑person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. Business travel may be required.

Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) a PE License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
