WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Offshore Environmental Compliance Coordinator (Field-Based) to support our Earth & Environment Team. This position plays a critical field role on offshore construction projects in New York and New Jersey, ensuring environmental compliance during marine operations and supporting real-time decision-making with vessel crews, construction managers, and environmental specialists.
This role provides hands-on technical support for collecting, interpreting, and documenting offshore environmental data, with an emphasis on field execution, environmental compliance monitoring, and maritime coordination. Responsibilities include ensuring offshore construction activities meet all environmental requirements, interpreting monitoring results, preparing compliance documentation, and supporting on-vessel environmental teams. Work is conducted in dynamic offshore environments and requires extensive travel and vessel mobilization.
Your Impact
- Oversee marine-based environmental inspection teams assigned to construction projects segments in NJ and NY.
- Coordinate with vessel crews, offshore contractors, Water Quality Monitoring Leads, Protected Species Observer Leads, and marine specialists.
- Review method statements for in-water construction methods.
- Support agency notification requirements and prepare offshore environmental deliverables.
- Resolve real-time offshore compliance issues with vessel supervisors and construction managers.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Marine Science, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience conducting environmental fieldwork, construction monitoring, marine surveys, or offshore environmental compliance.
- Strong understanding of offshore and coastal ecosystems, marine species, habitats, and environmental sensitivities associated with in-water work.
- Experience coordinating directly with vessel crews, offshore contractors, Water Quality Monitoring Leads, Marine Protected Species Observer Leads, and marine environmental specialists.
- Ability to oversee offshore environmental inspection teams and support real-time decision-making in field conditions.
- Experience reviewing method statements for in-water construction activities (e.g., jet trenching, mechanical dredging, cable lay, diver operations).
- Ability to prepare offshore environmental deliverables, support agency notification workflows, and maintain environmental compliance documentation.
- Demonstrated competency with State and Federal environmental regulations governing offshore and marine construction activities (e.g., BOEM/BSEE, NMFS, USACE, state coastal programs).
- Experience contributing to environmental reports, impact evaluations, siting analyses, and permit documentation.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain regulatory requirements and environmental commitments to vessel crews and construction managers.
- Ability to work independently in offshore environments while providing leadership and QA/QC oversight to junior field staff.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret monitoring results, identify environmental risks, and recommend corrective or adaptive management measures.
- Proven record of safety awareness and ability to comply with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to support non-standard schedules, including extended vessel shifts and rotational offshore deployments.
- Position requires 100% travel, including offshore vessel mobilizations and extended field assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $103,300 - 170,500
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
