We are seeking a Director for Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE). Role is based out of our Smyrna,Tennessee Corporate Office to lead and responsible for HSE for both US and Global Operations including Mexico, Europe, Asia and India.
Scope:
The Group HSE Director directs, develops and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the company. Ensure each workplace is in compliance with local, state and Federal OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations. Provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, hazardous material disposal procedures and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations through recordkeeping, written procedures and training. Conduct periodic compliance audits.
Responsibility and Authority:
- Responsibility for Corporate Health, Safety, DOT and Environmental (HSE) compliance for all ITG sites and authority to allocate budgets to achieve compliance.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Maintain and protect all company proprietary and confidential information.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate and coordinate the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System program and activities including performing audits, records management, planning, training, communication, emergency preparedness, management review meetings, etc.
- Maintain the chemical management system for all company processes including SDS management, inventory, and chemical approval systems, and training.
- Participate in the APQP process to provide HSE expertise for new projects, equipment, and change management initiatives as needed.
- Develop, implement and maintain a variety of DOT, safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and implement various training and awareness plans and programs along with KPIs to promote safety culture and zero injury mission.
- Develop safety and environmental training programs for managers and employees as needed or required for governmental compliance or to promote safe operations.
- Work in partnership with process engineers, operations supervisors and shift leads, and other key personnel in identifying and mitigating HSE risks.
- Provide hands on leadership in identifying, developing, maintaining all applicable OSHA, DOT, EPA, and environmental management system requirements.
- Keep abreast of legislative/regulatory changes of Environmental Health & Safety nature that may affect business functions. Interpret all relevant HSE legislation and make recommendations, provide advice, and train leadership team and employees to enable compliance.
- Manage OSHA recordkeeping and assist Human Resources with cases requiring medical management and placement for the Smyrna, TN location.
- Create and manage budgets for HSE activities. Assist satellite facilities with their like budgets.
- Lead investigations on environmental and safety non-compliance incidents and provide timely response to the leadership team.
- Utilize Industrial Hygiene knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying regulatory standards. Implement preventive measures – removing hazards or implementing engineering controls and/or PPE.
- Actively seek methods and opportunities to reduce waste streams and promote recycling and other waste control programs.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality System and Environmental Management System.
- Perform other typical duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental or closely related field.
- Minimum five years’ specific HSE experience in metalworking manufacturing or other environmental with similar requirements.
- Experience with multi-site global responsibilities.
- High proficiency and understanding of OSHA, DOT and EPA legislation.
- Highly experienced in developing and conducting HSE training.
- Strong knowledge of HSE recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance.
- A high degree of experience with incident investigation, including 8D, Root Cause Analysis or Five Whys.
- Proficiency in Ergonomics, First Aid Responder, and Industrial Hygiene data review.
- Experienced and highly proficient with EPA compliance and required submission of EPCRA, Toxic Chemical Release Inventory and RCRA reports, storm water and SPCC requirements.
- Proven track record and practical hands-on experience in applying OSHA, Safety and Industrial Hygiene standards in preferably a metal working or related environment.
- Floor oriented and self-motivated mindset.
- Works well under pressure, effectively handle conflict and demonstrate flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize strategic vision and translate into tactical actionable plans.
- Serve as change agent to drive cultural change in quickly changing business environment. Inspire others to action through collaboration and influence.
- Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite and Visio.
- Strong written and verbal communicator.
- A Highly tactical position requires the ability to practically communicate, teach and train on all levels of the organization.
- Occasional shift work flexibility is required.
- 20 – 25% travel is required
