Creative Services is responsible for the design and production of visual materials for the Saint Louis Zoo. The primary focus of the Production Artist is pre-press, production, installation and upkeep of print and sign projects. Finishing, installation and maintenance of signs requires familiarity with the necessary tools, materials, and sign hardware. A successful candidate will be able to fulfill multiple production requests, track and document work completed, and support in other Creative Services tasks both collaboratively and independently with direction.
This position is onsite at the Forest Park Campus of the Saint Louis Zoo. Some travel to our other locations in St. Louis may be required.
Primary Responsibilities
· Operate and maintain printers, laminators, print software and finishing equipment
· Effectively use computer design programs and file formats required for prepress and print
· Execute file prep and review pre-flight details prior to production
· Trim, laminate, mount, and maintain accuracy and production quality
· Measure, install and maintain sign elements across campuses
· Manage material tracking, report shortages and communicate reorders to Manager
· Collaborate with the design and production team, ensuring consistency in branding, quality, and installation
Qualifications
· Relevant degree and/or other production, creative or related experience
· Skilled with precise measurement and cutting using rulers/tape measure and cutting tools
· Ability to safely work with hand/power tools and related PPE (drill, utility knife, etc.)
· Physically able to stand for periods of time, walk long distances and lift up to 50 pounds if required
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
· Mac OS platform and Adobe Creative Suite programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
· Experience in print, graphics, art, carpentry or other skilled creative fields
All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test. As this is a safety-sensitive role, a negative drug test result is mandatory. The drug test screens for five substances, including marijuana.
