GPA Consulting, a multidisciplinary firm that specializes in environmental planning, biology studies, and historic preservation, is looking for a qualified entry-level Environmental Planner to join our diverse team of highly skilled professionals. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Design Arts, OR
- One year of experience in social or natural environmental planning, environmental research analysis or environmental evaluation, and
- Equivalent to graduation from college (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis), OR
- One year of experience in the California state service performing environmental planning related duties in a class comparable in responsibility to Management Services Technician, and
- Eighteen semester units of related college courses in social science, natural science, environmental studies, cultural resources, or economics.
General Duties:
The chosen candidate will assist with a range of tasks, including research, site visits, environmental documents, and technical analysis.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- General ecology or general principles behind planning for the conservation and preservation of natural resources;
- General principles and techniques of research and statistical analysis;
- Communication skills for purposes of data gathering;
- Techniques and methods of evaluation of environmental impacts;
- Various types of public facilities and how they service the community;
- State and Federal laws and regulations relating to the environment;
- State, local and regional governmental organizations as they relate to environmental planning, specific knowledge of either the social sciences, natural sciences or environmental design arts; and
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The ideal candidate will:
- Assist with conducting project site visits by taking field notes and photographs;
- Gather and research applicable project information for use in the technical analysis and environmental documents;
- Assist with preparation of environmental documents and technical analysis;
- Prepare deliverables for delivery to the client by formatting, printing, binding, and mailing;
- Assist with writing environmental documents and developing the figures to be used in the documents;
- Assist with the preparation of presentations for clients, public, and boards or commissions;
- Assist with the preparation of project scopes, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and progress reports;
- Conduct all work in a responsible and ethical manner;
- Be highly self-motivated and productive;
- Be detail oriented and accurate;
- Work effectively and cooperatively both as an individual and in a team setting;
- Possess strong technical writing and analysis skills; and
- Possess strong organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Powerpoint, ArcGIS).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift; carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and coordination including use of a computer keyboard;
- Sufficient physical ability to conduct site visits outside, walk more than one mile efficiently, and walk occasionally on uneven ground;
- Must be able to drive for long periods of time;
- Must have a reliable mode of transportation, and valid California Driver’s License and Automobile Insurance and be a driver in good standing with the California Department of Motor Vehicles;
- May be required to travel by air or car which may include some overnight stays; and
- Must be able to multitask and work amid frequent interruptions.
